Be the friend you want to have...
I have learned so much about stewardship since I started my career in Fundraising. God gives us incredible gifts but it’s what we do with it that will determine its longevity.
One of the best gifts I’ve ever received is the gift of true friendship. As a child and into my teen years I struggled to make friends.
A couple of years ago I heard a quote from Holly Furtick, ‘Be the friend you want to have’.
Everyone has heard of the principle of sowing and reaping - this quote was a perfect encouragement for me.
My husband is my best friend and I’m so thankful for being able to walk this life journey with him but my heart still prayed for a girl friend that I could chat with, do girly things with and someone who would understand all the emotions and cycles us women go through.
When I met my bestie, Trisha, there was an instant connection - it was so weird! I had never met someone that I had connected with so quickly and despite our geographical challenges (different states and now different countries) our friendship continues to grow and flourish. Why? Because we are both committed to being the friend we want to have.
Proverbs 17:17 ‘A dear friend will love you no matter what, and a family sticks together through all kinds of trouble.’ (TPT)
On my birthday last year Trisha posted this on Facebook;
I share this not to boast but to give you an example of what that scripture in action looks like for me.
It’s the little things that make the difference - the everyday ordinary tasks that make the gift of friendship so special.
Today, I want to challenge you to think about two things;
How can you be the kind of friend you want to have?
Pray about what you can do today, that will make one of your friends smile and remind them of how valuable the gift of friendship is.
